Welcome to Paintings by Pinchos

I have always had a fascination for maps, draughtsmanship and painting from my youth, using my imagination to “create” topographic maps and 2D terrain images, and with the help of the Almighty, I have been most fortunate to have worked as a Cartographer and C.A.D. Operator with Mapping / Land Surveying / Drawing Office experience of over 30 years.

I also painted as a youth and spent a year in London's Camberwell School of Art and Craft. I have combined the two disciplines of cartography/topography and oil painting. The work encompasses both Landscapes and portraiture. My work is figurative; strong in form and space, and natural colour.

Early Influences

My earliest graphical influences were those of technical drawings from books and occasionally, procuring actual working drawings, which I received from my uncle, who was a tool maker in the engineering industry.

My first "love" of anything drawn was the exposure to Ordnance Survey maps and plans whilst at primary school. During secondary school education I became aware of the works of JAD Ingres and became inspired by his painting technique and draughtsmanship as well as the works of his teacher, the French Neo-Classic master JL David. I have more recently grown an appreciation for the work of the American painter John Singer Sargent.
